Broken Dentures? We Can Help

Your dentures endure the same pressure and wear-and-tear as your natural teeth. Accidents can happen as well, such as dropping the dentures, which can break, chip, change shape, or develop other problems.
If you need denture repair and don’t want to wait weeks, seek help from Northwest Dental Services & Denture Implant Center in Tacoma or Lakewood, Washington. Our team includes three denturists who are specially trained to manufacture and repair dentures.
We also have an in-office denture lab, allowing us to make personalized repairs promptly. By comparison, many dentists send the dentures off to a dental lab, which can take weeks before they finish the work and return your dentures.
Denture problems
Chances are you know when there’s a problem with your dentures. Even if you can’t see a crack or other visible problem, they feel loose, cause sores on your gums, and affect your ability to chew and talk.
The longer you wait to have them repaired, the worse the problem will become and the more you and your gums will suffer.
The range of dental problems includes:
- Loose dentures
- Warped denture base
- Cracked or broken denture plate
- Cracked or broken teeth
- Tooth falls out of the denture base
- Loose or broken metal clasps
Your dentures may also get scratched or stained, two problems that require professional repair services.
Denture repairs
Here’s a rundown of the four most common denture repairs:
1. Relining
Having loose dentures is one of the top reasons people seek a repair expert. Over time, the shape of your gums and jawbone can change. Daily wear and tear (chewing, biting hard objects, exposing dentures to hot water, and others) also affect how your dentures fit.
As a result, dentures that were once perfectly snug start to loosen. Relining is the solution to loose dentures, as long as the base isn’t warped or cracked.
When relining your dentures, we take an impression of your mouth and use it to create a new liner to put inside the denture base. The liner may be hard or soft, depending on the sensitivity of your gums and your personal needs.
No matter the material, the new lining ensures your dentures are snug enough to stay in place without causing discomfort or sores.
2. Denture rebase
Rebasing means we replace the entire pink acrylic part of your dentures. The process begins by taking an impression of your mouth with the dentures in place.
Then, we use the impression to make a mold for producing the new base, placing the same teeth in the new base.
Dentures that are worn, warped, broken, cracked, or discolored typically need rebasing. You may also need a new base if you can’t eat without using a denture adhesive or if your gums are frequently inflamed or irritated.
3. Minor crack repairs
We can repair a minor hairline crack with professional adhesives. While you can use an over-the-counter repair kit for a small crack, using too much or too little glue can lead to misaligned dentures.
Repairing dentures at home may worsen the crack or introduce irritating materials into your mouth. With our on-site denture lab, we can quickly fix a minor crack and ensure your dentures fit.
4. Tooth replacement
We can replace a tooth that’s cracked or chipped or one that falls out of your dentures. We manufacture a new tooth that matches the size and color of the remaining teeth.
If you have multiple lost or broken teeth and the denture base is worn or damaged, we may recommend replacing your dentures.
